Tea with 3 Sugars
Sometimes I buy tea for this homeless woman who sits on 19th and Park that I pass on the way to the subway. It started one snowy day in February when I was getting some tea for myself. I passed her on the way and asked if she wanted any tea. She said yes please with 3 sugars. So I pass her just about every weekday and now have officially been dubbed her “tea lady”. I have offered to buy her dinner but she just tells me I am her Tea Lady and that is more than enough. In the last 2 months it never occurred to me to ask her name. I just hand her tea and head to the subway. Last week, after almost 2 months, I learned that her name is Rosemary. I also learned that Rosemary landed in the hospital. Her thyroid has failed and I haven’t seen her for a week now. So if you see a lady on 19th and Park and she looks like she needs some tea please buy her a cup. She likes black tea with 3 sugars.
