I was on 59th Street and Lexington today when the worst thing that could possible happen, happened. I had to pee.
This means that my only option was Bloomindales (gasp) so I braved the crowds and crowds and CROWDS of out-of-towners (2 “Kentucky dollars” according to the Salvation army guy on the corner) to finally get up to the 2nd floor bathroom where the line was 10 miles long. My poor bladder. I prefer this option to the idea of NYC public bathroom (ew) but it was rather torturous.
My second favorite part of this experience occurred on my way out. I was going down the escalator because of course there was like 900 baby carriages on the elevator and no room to breathe. At the bottom the first round of escalators, 2 midwestern girls decided not to step forward but to just stop. Yes STOP. This caused a bit of a domino effect that I was luckily apart of as the rest of the millions of us hit the bottom and bumped into their asses. Not only did this suck but also these girls were confused as to why several dozens people were ready to tell them to go eat a dick. I would have stayed to explain it but then I might have had to punch them.
I am beginning to understand why Scrooges was so cranky this time of year. The ghosts of X-mas, past, present and future have apparently never visited Bloomingdales on a Saturday at 3:30 in the afternoon in December.

Today is my last day off before I start my new job. I spent the entire day watching season 2 of Arrested Development. Now if every day were like today I would definitely not be calling it the daily grind. Maybe something like the how absurd are we as American’s to possibly let this show get canceled and let something like Two Men stay on the air grind
Unfortunately that is just not as catchy.

Finding this on the internet was probably my most sober moment this week and I just found it a few minutes ago.
Tom Cruise Kills Oprah and proves that Amy is a dork because she finds it so funny

The other night in Aimee Mann Ipod land I was tipsily getting off the train at Ditmars when I spotted a familiar face from my brief time working at Borders in Mt Kisco. It brought me back to all my bookstore years I had in Mt. Kisco (there were 5 of them). I think that just about everyone at one point or another has had his or her time working at a Borders bookstore.
My time was 2 weeks.
In high school and college I spent many years working at a smaller bookstore, first called Royal Books then Encore Books and then called OUT OF BUSINESS (due to the Borders opening). I have many fond book store memories and many book store pals. But what I don’t’ have fond memories of are the 2 weeks I was demoted from Manager to “Book Seller” because “We all start as Books Sellers here at Borders and work our way up!”. I quickly got the flu from working with all the snot nosed kids in the children section, quit and made a hell of a lot more money babysitting the rest of my way through college.

I suck. I have just been such a slacker when I get home from work that I have not kept up with you. I have not done my quilting homework. I have not even gone food shopping and damn am I feeling that now at 8 PM when all there is to eat are baked beans.
I am sharing Halloween pictures with you because they are just too funny to keep to myself. Steve gets the hubby of October award for dressing up like Mary-Kate Olson.

My most favorite costume ever!

Hi Folks!
It has been awhile. Let me bring you up to speed but first a quick story about the Spice Market and John Cusack’s ENORMOUS head.
I was slightly obsessed with Say Anything in high school (and college) so much so that I had a car named Lloyd Dobler and I listened to “In Your Eyes” too many times to count.
Digression- “She gave me a pen. I gave her my heart, she gave me a pen.”
I was even given a copy of the movie by an old boyfriend with dumb home videos of him from middle school afterwards (note to you guys out there macking on the ladies—-this is not a good idea! John Cusack can pull off the boyish charm but not many adolescents can!!!!) . Ok, so fast-forward to October 17, 2005, at 9pm at the Spice Market in the Meat Packing District. We have a pal who works there and gave us a gift certificate, so we were there stuffing our faces with food when the buzz went round that John Cusack was there. He was sitting in a different section than us but as you walked down the stairs toward the bathrooms, you were facing him profile-style. Let me tell you as adorable as the man was in Say Anything I had no idea his head was so large. Maybe my head is a bit small but my God! Huge! He was with this super trendy girl who had no outstanding features worth mentioning. HUGE.
Other than dining at the Spice Market where have I been you ask? Well I am being recruited by another non-profit. YAY! My present job is fine (more like ok) and I wasn’t looking nor am I in any rush to leave but this just such an exciting opportunity! The job sounds great, the Executive Director was motivating and inspiring in my interviews and I think it is a job that could be made for me. I have been on interviews, and site visits and committee meetings…I have one last meeting with the Chair of the Board and then I think they will make an offer. I will keep you posted. This has been taking over my mind and time.
As for Halloween, I have 3 parties to hit this weekend and Monday. If I can find matching blonde wigs, I think Steve and I will go as Mary-Kate and Ashley Olson.
I’ll leave you wondering about that last sentence.

Around 1pm last Thursday, a coworker and I where meandering around 35th street looking at some of the sale racks outside the trashy fabric wholesale stores on the block. There was a Latino man standing next to us doing the same and I should also add the my coworker is Catholic…so a Jew, a Catholic and a Latino where standing outside a clothing rack when 2 young, Hasidic boys came up to us. Of all the people in the group, they boys turn to the Latino man and asked him if he was Jewish. He looks at them, they look at him and he slowly said “No” and then he turned to us and said “Are Latino men usually Jewish?”. Well Latino men might not be Jewish but I think this particular Latino man was psychic because I was thinking the same thing.
